In order tp protect the speed and reliablity of our Network, Skyway West prides itself in supplying our customers with the right equipment for the job. This is not something you can always say about our competitors.
For example, an ADSL router is your best option when connecting a LAN to the Internet. A modem can be used for a single workstation.
Routers are faster, more reliable and easier to support remotely. It can be configured with a firewall, preventing "hackers" from accessing your LAN and allows all users on your LAN to access the Internet simultaneously from one connection. It is also needed when connecting additional devices (mail or web server) and applications requiring multiple IP addresses.
Skyway connects your router to the ADSL line using a splitter at the Telus dmarc. Splitters provide a fast, clean connection to the Internet.
Some of our competors use a less expensive filter plugged into an existing phone jack. These filters do not eliminate "noise" on the phone line and can noticeably slow down your ADSL connection making them unsuitable for connecting a LAN to the Internet.
