Report Illegal or Fraudulent Spams to Police and Regulatory Bodies
Some of what gets advertised in Spam is actually illegal. Once in a while, if only for for fun, report some of that illegal Spam to police or regulatory bodies. Some spammers have actually gone to jail - wouldn't it be great if that happened to the ones spamming you? Some examples of things that are probably illegal where you live:
- child pornography (lolitas, etc) - report to your local police, especially if you determine the web site is located in your own country
- pyramid schemes - report to your local police
- stock "pump and dump" schemes, ie. illegal stock promotion - report to the SEC or your local stock market regulatory body
- sending Spam through Open Relays is a misuse of other's computer property and is illegal in some jurisdictions
Note that the author of this document has no experience with reporting anything to the police, except B&E's into his apartment and car, which they never seem to solve. Supposedly the police do investigate and catch people who break the law, however, so make sure they know this stuff is going on.
