Complain About Corporate Spam
Corporate Spam is Spam that comes from an otherwise legitimate company. Several large companies have been guilty of spamming in the past, and others will undoubtedly try it in the future. The Direct Marketing Association has several times tried to, um, persuade, the US Congress to pass legislation that would effectively legitimize Spam. Many fortune 500 companies are members of the DMA. Just because it's Microsoft, Amazon or Borland spamming you, however, doesn't make it any less Spam.
Corporate Spam is easy to track. Most of these companies don't bother to try and hide the source of the Spam. You'll receive E-mail from a company you don't recall asking for information from. You might have given them an E-mail address to access their support database, and suddenly you receive a new product message. It's all Spam.
Complaining about Corporate Spam is a little more complicated. Microsoft's ISPs won't do anything when they Spam you. There are ways to try and persuade companies that Spam is wrong, however. See our Complaints section for some hints.
As with all spam, check the Received: headers carefully to make sure the Spam came from who you think it did.
